Linking farmers to quality sources and certified sweet-potato planting materials in East Africa

The ICOPSEA consortium has developed an ICT platform for monitoring production, inspection and marketing of quality planting materials (seed) of elite sweet-potato varieties. The platform is driven bu a web based mobile application that can be operated on any android powered mobile phone.

This Viazi Platform is designed to address critical issues of certification in the sweet-potato seed value chain to enable farmers access vines from certified multipliers. It addresses issues of market linkages between vine producers and farmers and linking farmers to output markets.

It also provides mechanisms of pests and disease outbreak surveilance through the query functionality. Its use will enhance management of the yield robbing pests and diseases especially the devastating sweet-potato virus disease SPVD in elite but susceptible varieties and commercialization of certified seed.
